Bacteria are among the different organisms in nature. These single-celled organisms may not be visible to the naked eye and are in different habitats, such as soil, air, water, hot springs and acidic environments. The bacteria identified by Gram stain, the stain which is used to distinguish different types of organisms. Bacteria without cell walls, are classified as Gram positive or Gram-negative, respectively. Bacterial types depends on the shape and size. Coccus is spherical forms of bacteria that can live as individual cells, or steam to form chains or clusters. Staphylococci and streptococci are the most common bacteria in this group, and usually Gram-positive. These bacteria perform useful functions in the body and the environment, but they can be harmful. Staphylococcus aureus can cause impetigo (skin infection), scalded skin syndrome and food poisoning, while Streptococcus pyogenes can cause tonsillitis, and strep throat. Bacillus refers to the rod forms of bacteria that are usually Gram-positive or negative. Escherichia coli and Salmonella most frequently encountered species responsible for food poisoning and typhoid fever, respectively. According to the University at Albany, wand also includes two of the most dangerous bacteria, it is known that the anthrax bacillus, which causes ulcers pulmonary disease, and Clostridium, which causes botulism, gangrene and tetanus. Rickettsia are unique bacterial species, because it behaves like a virus and can not exist outside of living cells. The organism is Gram-negative, cocci or sphere form and is transmitted through the bite of infected fleas, ticks and lice, which are known as vectors or carriers. Rickettsia is responsible for typhus, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Rickettsialpox, rashes on the body. Mycoplasma is not the cell wall and can pivot or shape of a sphere. This gives the body a unique advantage because it does not depend on antibiotics, which work by damaging the cell wall. Mycoplasma pneumonia is responsible for respiratory infections, and Mycoplasma genitalium causes pelvic disease cheap strattera. Spirillum refers to a spin or spiral bacteria, Gram-negative. Treponema is usually responsible for the sexually transmitted disease syphilis. Borrelia, are known to cause Lyme disease, which is transmitted through tick bites. Although there are five different types of bacteria, there are many differences between each species. Organisms have evolved to such an extent that they can succeed in the toughest conditions with an amazing ability to adapt. The article discussed LedaY Last updated:. May 12, 2011
